MISSION

Advancing Black LGBTQ Culture

About

Rainbow Serpent is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to advancing Black LGBTQ culture through the exploration of emerging technologies, innovative healing protocols, African cosmologies, and multimedia art. We are dedicated to promoting and celebrating the diversity and richness of Black LGBTQ culture while advancing healing and empowerment within the community. Our largest aim is to create a new radiant reality, one as resplendent and diverse as the Rainbow and as fertile and enduring as the Serpent.

Our Mission

We bridge the gap between African cosmologies, contemporary art, emerging technologies, and Black LGBTQ culture to explore new and innovative ways to express and share Afro-diasporic LGBTQ cultural heritage.

Rainbow Serpent fulfills this mission by:

  • We create, publish, and promote artistic works, exhibitions, and performances that celebrate Black LGBTQ culture, including live performances, public artworks, literary works, photography, films, animations, paintings, installations, multimedia artworks, and works in emerging media.

  • We explore the potential of emerging technologies to generate new artistic concepts and creations related to Black LGBTQ culture, and we establish digital archives and repositories of Black LGBTQ cultural artifacts to preserve and share this important history with future generations.

  • We offer educational programs and workshops to increase community awareness and understanding of Black LGBTQ culture, history, and issues. We also host reading groups for Black LGBTQ people to discuss African spirituality and art.

  • We organize retreats that promote healing and art and provide a safe and nurturing space for individuals to connect, create, and grow. We partner with traditional healers and spiritual practitioners to provide alternative healing modalities that honor African cosmologies and address the mental, physical, and spiritual health needs of Black LGBTQ individuals in a culturally appropriate way.

  • We curate events and exhibitions that showcase a diversity of cultural and artistic expression, featuring works from established and emerging artists and performers that reflect a range of experiences and perspectives within the Black LGBTQ community.

Our Values

We are a diverse group of artists, scientists, traditional African cosmologists, scholars, and innovators who are committed to the following principles.

  • We value the diversity of Black LGBTQ culture and strive to promote and celebrate this diversity through a range of artistic and cultural events and exhibitions.

  • We are committed to advancing healing and empowerment within the Black LGBTQ community through the use of art, alternative healing modalities, educational programs and workshops, and collaborative events and exhibitions.

  • We recognize the importance of preserving Black LGBTQ cultural artifacts and history and seek to establish digital archives and repositories to share this rich cultural heritage with future generations.

  • We are dedicated to exploring the potential of emerging technologies to generate new artistic concepts and creations related to Black LGBTQ culture, bridging the gap between African cosmologies, contemporary art and technology, and Black LGBTQ culture.
