Sovereign
Photography by Granville Carroll
Sovereign reinterprets 16 sculptures of ancient Kemetic deities cast from the bodies of contemporary Black queer men. These images serve to enliven and animate the sculptures by elevating them to dimensions of cosmic authority and divinity. In doing so, ancient African mythologies come to life in the contemporary and connect Blackness to power, beauty, technology, and spirituality.
This project by collective member Granville Carroll is in collaboration with Rainbow Serpent and our Myth-Science of the Gatekeepers project.
